Energy & Color

Carrie Wild showcases new works at Altamira Fine Art in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Carrie Wild has carved a name for herself in Western and wildlife art. Her repeating imagery of North American animals like horses and bison are bold, bright and instantly recognizable. Starting this February, she’ll be showcasing her latest body of work at Altamira Fine Art in Old Town Scottsdale, Arizona.

Rendezvous History - Equine.0, acrylic and gold leaf on canvas, 48 x 72 in.

Russet Remuda, acrylic and gold leaf on canvas, 48 x 48 in.

“My new collection, titled time/LAPSE, focuses on exploration of the passage of time through color form and texture,” says Wild. Featured in the show are multiple acrylic and gold leaf paintings, which imbue both lustre and vibrancy to her work. Rendezvous in Color Sixteen.5 features repeating patterns of multi-colored bison in shades of electrifying fuschia, magenta, gold and blue. In Russet Remuda, Wild doesn’t so much paint the fully fleshed-out forms of a herd of horses as she does the energy of their forms. Loose, expressive brushstrokes clearly indicate that we’re looking at horses, yet the shapes are distilled down to their most essential. The backdrop is made up of oranges, pinks and blues, much like the colors of an Arizona sunset. Another new piece in the show, Rendezvous History - Equine.0, also captures Wild’s expressive brushwork.

Rendezvous Equine Twenty four.1, acrylic and gold leaf on canvas, 40 x 40 in.

“Color has the ability to emphasize emotion and evoke memories. I use color to trigger the subconscious, transporting my viewers to a place that feels warm and familiar,” she adds.

“Contemporary Western art brings new life into iconic subjects of the American West. Because of the contemporary nature, the art is reaching new, younger audiences, has a wider reach beyond just the West and is being welcomed into current interior design and architectural styles. For me, the contemporary aspect of Western art allows me to incorporate abstract design, motion and color with subjects that I love and experience every day.”

Rendezvous in Color Sixteen.5, acrylic and gold leaf on canvas, 30 x 30 in.

The exhibition will hang from February 25 to March 8. An artist reception takes place at the gallery on Thursday, February 27, from 7 to 9 p.m.
